I have decided to institute a Silly Hats Only policy in the workplace. Loans/Donations of silly hats will be graciously accepted. Also, I've decided to start posting anything I want about other peoples' silly hats.

Dr. Seuss' Secret Hat Closet
I'm going to break from the usually silly tone of this blog to write a serious post about one of the most important and influential writers for the last century.
Dr. Seuss had a hat closet full of hats that he collected from around the world. According to Collectors Weekly, he'd sometimes break them out to overcome a creative block, or just for dinner parties. Some of his hats directly inspired characters in his famous book, like the cat's hat, above. There's a touring exhibition going across the US where you can see some of these hats in person.

Magical Rabbit Hat
A magic hat with a rabbit, from IKEA. I don't know why it has patches.I guess they are magical patches. Note that the rabbit is on the outside of this hat. I have a stinking suspicion it is a non-magical rabbit and just a regular old hat. Time will tell...

Bedazzled Santa Hat

This was given to me by a random kid in front of a bodega. He had a whole box of them that he was giving away. Deadstock I guess.

My Grandmother's Hats
My grandmother passed away a few months ago. These are some of her hats.
This one makes me think of a Tamara de Lempicka painting:

Strawberry Short Birthday
I can't really tell if this is supposed to be first and foremost a Birthday Cake or a Strawberry Shortcake. No reason it can't be both, I suppose. If nothing else, I am certain that it's not an Ice Cream Cake. You can tell because it doesn't have those chocolate crunchy things at the bottom of it like the Carvel Ice Cream Cakes do. I like those things.
This is another IKEA gem. for some reason these were 50% off. I know, I don't understand it either...

Scott's hat
It's been a while sine I got to post a co-worker's hat, since Amanda moved on quite a while ago. But today Scott walked in wearing this:
This was met by a barrage of the Indiana Jones theme coming from the in-house a capella group we have here. It's about three sizes too big for my head.

Santa Pom Pom
A wintery hat with a Santa-on-a-string pom pom:
It's kinda sorta almost a Christmas Fez. This hat was hidden behind my bed for about a year, until the last time I moved. I suspect the guilty party has four legs.

Racoon head
Totally Stylin...in 1956. Hat donated by the girlfriend's father. Photo taken months ago. Post posted now. Apparently Davy Crockett really did wear one of these things
